why go?

Handing Out Tract

Whether it is telling a friend or family member, handing out tracts to strangers, or proclaiming the Gospel in the public square, you may ask “why would you go and do such a thing?”

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18–20 ESV)

"When preaching and private talk are not available, you need to have a tract ready. Get good striking tracts, or none at all. But a touching gospel tract may be the seed of eternal life. Therefore, do not go out without your tracts." - Charles Spurgeon

You certainly don't need to try to convince me that ANY sort of evangelism is uncomfortable, my flesh knows this very well from personal experience – especially if you proclaim the genuine Biblical Gospel that exposes sin through the LAW before opening up the treasures of Christ's grace from heaven. Helping someone see the depth of their sin and then pointing them to Christ is not easy, but when we consider that every single person around us will either be in heaven or in hell in 100 years (most less!), we are compelled to rescue those perishing in their sins. Jesus said that “the gate is narrow and…those who find it are few” (Matthew 7:14 ESV), and in John 3:3 He made it clear that we must be born again to enter the kingdom of heaven. We are compelled to go: out of love for our neighbors who will be punished for their sins in the eternal lake which burns with fire unless they come to Christ in this life, and out of love for our dear Savior who is worthy of the reward for His suffering. Out of the love of Christ and for the love of others we must bring the Gospel to the ears of those who might otherwise never hear it. So we pray for the courage to go but we go either way, whether we feel the courage or not, trusting God to enable us to share the truth as it is in Jesus with others, even strangers! My friend, we want to encourage you to consider these truths in light of Scripture, and we pray that the Lord will put feet to our prayers, that we will be found “having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.” (Ephesians 6:15 ESV)

Please pray that sinners might repent and beg for God's mercy through Jesus Christ, that they too may say “Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (Romans 7:24-25 ESV)

Our prayer is that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which He has called you, what are the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His great might that He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things under His feet and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. (Ephesians 1:17–23 ESV)

We know that it is God who opens the ear to hear, gives the eye to see, and enables the heart to believe on Christ, and so we pray to that end. Nonetheless we pray that we would be found faithful, trusting in the sovereignty of God but not neglecting our own duty in the Great Commission and the means of grace.

"If your reformed theology enables you to rationalize your apathy towards prayer, evangelism, and mercy ministry, it's not reformed theology." - Burk Parson

If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,” does not He who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not He who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will He not repay man according to his work? (Proverbs 24:10–12 ESV)

Go Where?

The following are some ideas about where to reach your neighbors with the Gospel:

1. Find City/Town events pages listed on city websites or social media.
2. Concerts of any kind. Check websites of stadiums or concert halls for a calendar of events. LOTS of people go to them.
3. Sport events. Check stadium or team calendars on their websites.
4. Boardwalks at beach towns (WARNING/reminder: possible stumbling blocks due to immodest dress on beaches).
5. Gay pride events. Find on websites of local and national organizations.
6. False gospel preacher events (Kenneth Copeland, Joel Osteen, Joyce Meyer, etc.). Love your deceived neighbors with the true Biblical Gospel; thousands of false converts go to those events.
7. County Fairs draw hundreds if not thousands of locals.
8. Major city streets, busy street corners.
9. False gospel "Christian" concerts such as Hillsong, Bethel, Lauren Daigle, Jesus Culture, etc.
10. WalMart, shopping centers, large parking lots, Black Friday shopping lines, city centers, parks…anywhere people gather.

About us

My name is Trevor Emptage and for several years now I have been engaging with the culture in one-on-one evangelism as well as open-air preaching, which often leads to deep conversations with the lost. In 2012 God graciously saved me, a wicked and rebellious sinner with a dark past, and He transferred me from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of His beloved Son Jesus Christ, making me a trophy of His grace – as He has with every other person that He has saved by His sovereign work in our souls. I have been blessed to sit under solid preaching and teaching at First Baptist Church of Phoenix, Oregon, and am thankful for the zeal of fellow brethren at this and other local churches to share the Gospel with the lost. My wife Elly and I are very much aware of the deep sewer of sin that the Lord pulled us from, and we thank God that though we were once slaves to sin, we have now been made slaves to righteousness by the finished life and work of Jesus Christ: “But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness” (Romans 6:17-18).

Would you consider sharing your testimony?

My wife Elly grew up in a missionary family, spending seven years of her childhood in West Germany when East Germany was still Communist, crossing borders with her parents (and siblings) who supported persecuted Christians under the Communist iron fist, and then five years in Israel until Operation Desert Storm started in January 1991.

I grew up in Oregon with a believing mother, hearing something of Christ from her, and I professed to be a Christian for 20 years though my life very much did not reflect the fruit of one who loves God. But then in 2012 God genuinely worked in my heart, causing me to be born again, granting me repentance for my sins and faith to savingly trust in Jesus Christ. Whether here or abroad, we have found when we ask people “What is the Gospel?” that shockingly, even among many professing Christians, they are very often unable to answer the question and sadly, the Biblical doctrine of the new birth (John 3:3) is even less known. The need for the spread of the Gospel worldwide is on the heart of every genuine Christian, especially as we see the pain and suffering that people live under, both physically and spiritually. One thing that has become very clear to both me and Elly, though, is the desperate need for the Gospel to be spread here on our very own soil. From Black Lives Matters riots, to pro-abortion rallies, to the masses generally unconcerned about their souls and headed down the broad road that leads to destruction, we see the desperate need for the Gospel to be shared with those all around us. Many of us have loved ones who are either apathetic to the good news of the Gospel or openly hostile to Jesus Christ and His Word. God has graciously enabled me to be bi-vocational, splitting my time between tech work and missionary work here in the United States.

As a family we are grateful to be able to “go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that [God’s] house may be filled” (Luke 14:23). Out of love for Jesus Christ and love for our neighbors, our duty is our delight as we go out to “rescue the perishing” right here on our own native soil.

While I would love to dedicate most of my waking hours to know Christ more and make Him known in every place that can be named, I do have computer tech skills that I’ve been blessed with, so if you need a new computer, new website, or other computer related help/advice, send an email to Trevor@CyberSecTec.com I have been doing computer tech work since 1999 and am able to do remote computer support, so if you have any needs in that direction, contact me and we can discuss how I can help. I’m also looking to collaborate with other tech persons on the next step in online sharing of sermons, Christian music, articles, etc. on secure networks that cannot be taken down if big tech decides it doesn’t like the content.
